Week of August 31:
Love
This whisper is dedicated
to my good friend and beloved community icon, Danny Roy
Young. The outpouring of love was inspirational at his
memorial service yesterday with 1111 (his street address
too) people in attendance. After a year of writing these
whispers, I was a little surprised to see that I had never
asked the angels about love.
During the ceremony, the
three ministers each spoke and broke into tears as they
talked about this incredible human being. Even people from
the congregation remarked that they had never seen that
reaction from these individuals. They compared Danny to John
the Baptist as well as other saints.
If you Google love, you
will find more than two billion entries! But as I looked at
some of them, the definitions fell short of my expectations.
They should just post a picture of Danny to explain the word
(LOL). This man taught more people how to love than anyone I
have ever personally known. Danny would call you up just to
say, "I love you" or "I miss you" or "Get by here so I can
love on your neck."
Danny did not regularly
attend church but he spent a lot of time there as a youth
advocate and was very engaged with the church leaders. He
had other passions that could be characterized as the
'simple things in life,' and he made the expression of love
feel simple. "Danny was a gift from God" was spoken more
than once as he was eulogized.
As a speaker, I found it
challenging to express words that felt like a complete
summary for this man in a few short minutes of time. But one
thing was very clear: This man embodied the word love. I
will now try to capture the same essence in a few short
lines from the angels that I call a whisper:
Love is the energy of
the Divine. It is like all of the unseen things that man
tries to explain with words. In every corner of the
Universe, you can know love if you are willing to make the
choice to feel what you cannot see.
The energy of the angels is something that if you it
express in words might sound like super-love or an extra
large. That is why angels are dedicated as guides during
the human experience, so that you can know that love is
all around you in a big way.
Think of the most joyous thing that ever happened in your
life and rest in that energy for a moment to know love. If
you set an intention to experience love in any situation
you will find the source and the ability to alter the
psyche. People like Danny are sent to Earth as a teacher
of love through exampled living.
The souls or essence of mankind is a complete reflection
of love. To remove layers that block your love, forgive
yourself and others, expand your thinking to have more
loving experiences, build your faith on the energy of joy,
and say the words "I love you" as many times as you can.
The best place to start is in the mirror. The most
powerful wave of love is found in single moments of
reflection.
Bring joy, ease suffering
and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
