Week of November 9:
Honor
One of my readers
recommended this whisper-many thanks to Heather for that
suggestion. I feel honored (tee hee). I have just returned
from attending an advanced course with Doreen Virtue which
landed me in Hawaii for a week, yet another reason I feel so
honored.
Honor comes from the Latin
word honorare and means the evaluation of a person's
trustworthiness and social status based on that individual's
espousals and actions. It can be viewed as natural that
honor is as real to the human condition as love, and
likewise derives from the formative personal bonds that
establish one's personal dignity and character.
The island traditions are
steeped in time-honored practices relating to people and
nature. One trip to the airport to head back to the U.S.
sure shifted that energy! It seems our culture has lost
ground when it comes to respect and honor, compared to the
ancient beliefs.
Beckie and I spent time at
the "place of refuge" in the National Historic Park named
Pu'uhonua o Honaunau, where there are the remains of a
thousand-foot-long lava-walled area. According to tradition,
if you broke the laws of the culture, which were dictated by
the family, you had to swim through the 'bay of sharks' to
the place of refuge. If you made it, you were forgiven your
misdeeds and allowed to return to the tribe with a 'clean
slate.' If not, you were 'recycled,' as the natives put it.
This sacred ground was a
small part of the teachings on honor that I received this
last week. I might have to write another whisper on this
incredible journey, but for now I will unpack my luggage and
ask the angelic guides for some insight into the word honor:
Honor is connected to
the energy of love. When you honor yourself and others,
you bring into focus the sanctity of life on many levels.
As you honor yourself, you are better equipped to share
your loving energy with others through respect.
To feel honor, simply recognize there is a divine light
that shines in everyone and connects you with the Oneness
that surrounds you. Meditation, ceremony, singing, dancing
and movement of energy are all ways that you can feel
honor in the physical.
When you honor yourself and others, you are better able to
set aside judgments based in ego, and that builds your
auric field. This is one of the easiest ways to spread
light in the world around you while forming a barrier of
protection.
If you want to teach love, start with the basic need that
exists within the human experience. How many times have
you heard the word love followed by honor in ceremonies
like weddings and memorials? This is more than symbolic as
it brings to the surface emotions like respect, dignity,
forgiveness and a world of positive feelings.
Honor can heal the wounds inflicted by all others,
including yourself. Connecting with the Highest Power with
honor can soothe the soul, open your heart and bring peace
to the planet while connecting to the Universal rhythms
and vibrations shared by all of life. If you have lost
respect, you can easily find it with honor without
swimming through the shark-infested waters of the past.
Bring joy, ease suffering
and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
Blessings, Russell
