Week of October 18, 2009:
Hope
This has been a buzz word since
the last election, and now I see it used everywhere, but
what does it mean or suggest? Having heavily engaged in
this energy of hope over the past few weeks with respect
to an illness in the family, I believe there may be a
deeper meaning than mere wishful thinking or positive
daydreaming.
Hope can refer to a sloping plain
between mountain ridges or a small bay; an inlet; a haven.
But hope is generally thought to mean a desire of some good,
accompanied with an expectation of obtaining it, or a belief
that it is obtainable; an expectation of something which is
thought to be desirable; confidence; pleasing expectancy.
Those words 'pleasing expectancy'
makes me ponder my own feelings around hope. It is not
necessarily healthy to engage in following an illusion, but
is there a difference between an illusion and pleasing
expectancy? And what is the alternative to feeling hope? I
found this quote from Josh Hartnett: Hope is the most
exciting thing in life, and if you honestly believe that
love is out there, it will come. And even if it doesn't come
straight away there is still that chance all through your
life that it will."
I think we all need and want hope
because I believe our fathers before us had to have a lot of
hope and courage for all of us to arrive at this moment.
"Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven
where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines
down upon us to let us know they are happy" is an Eskimo
proverb that speaks to the soul and elicits a whisper from
an angel:
Manifesting desires, intentions
and even miracles comes through the vibrations of hope and
the resonance found within the positive projections of the
future. The most positive energy of hope springs forward
from the depths of your faith as past civilizations held
great hopes in the midst of even greater unknowns.
As information has become more available through
technology and science, humans have a tendency toward
limiting hopes due to what they think they know. This can
lead to a breakdown in faith and beliefs, which can create
obstacles on the path of illumination. Depending heavily
on the mind to find all the answers to life can remove the
heart from feeling an unseen truth, causing separation
from hope.
Hope can sustain life on a global scale, but it begins
with the individual before falling on the society as a
collective whole. People can naturally lose hope in the
face of challenges, and that is why it is important for
the community to help bolster the hope of individuals.
Collective hope, joy and love can be spread throughout the
society without total agreement on all fronts as long as
there is a space held with honor and respect for the views
of everyone.
Children are the catalyst for the highest levels of hope
and impetus for change. In the eyes of children, your
heart can feel hope, your mind can find hope and your soul
can express hope. Return to your own childhood essence and
you will find that same energy of hope.
Bring joy, ease suffering
and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
Blessings, Russell
