Seva
Seva refers to volunteer work
or selfless service; work offered to God. Amma, also
known as 'the hugging saint,' has set the model in this
area. The means by which she lives her life are minimal,
and last year alone her organization took in more than 68
million dollars in donations. Amma has given aid around
the globe by offering immediate help to people devastated
by natural tragedies, often doing much more than
governments and entire countries. She also helps the poor
by building houses, schools and bridges.
Amma's example of unconditional love, having personally
hugged more than 30 million people, has inspired me in
countless ways. My tithe comes in the form of giving back
to my community in the work that I do. I must admit that
while I am nowhere near sainthood (tee hee), the feeling
of giving with conscious purpose has fulfilled an area of
my soul that was in desperate need.
When it comes to validation and approval, we should look
inward and feel those emotions rather than looking to
others. There is nothing more empowering than the response
from the body, mind and spirit that comes from the energy
of giving. Let's get a whisper from an angel on the
selfless service known as Seva:
Rewards in life are derived
from sources that are sometimes hidden from obvious view.
The subtle energies that surround the human body can be
accessed through stillness of the mind and the ability to
'hear' the inner voice. When that inner voice is heard and
action steps are formed as a result, that voice begins to
sing the song of life.
Through acts of selfless service, the God within is
brought to the surface and helps the individual feel the
ultimate depths of their life purpose, conscious living
and unconditional love. These acts are simultaneously
paying forward creative manifestations and/or resolving
past hurts and harsh experiences. In other words, acts of
random kindness are both giving and receiving from the
essence of the spirit.
The body, mind and spirit are soothed with Seva, and
layers of guilt, anger, manipulation and all forms of
toxic emotions can be released in an instant with grace,
ease and simplicity. The result is higher self-esteem,
raised consciousness and clarity which, in return, empower
and support the daily decisions that further illuminate
the path of the eternal soul.
In love there is only Seva, and in Seva there is the god
within, shining the light of truth, joy, happiness and the
unlimited pursuit of freedom. Follow your voice to the
Seva of choice, and you will be a teacher of love.
Bring joy, ease suffering
and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!

Dearest Russell –
I just needed to say hello and send you such gratitude for
putting me on the list to receive your Angel Whispers that you
do for everyone each week.
There is so much I get from them, and they especially ring
true as a message I am needing even when it doesn’t seem that
way at the beginning – there is always one!
