Week of June 20, 2010:
Mortal Sin
I was reading a biography that
described an eight-year-old having the personal experience
of committing a mortal sin. You know me (tee hee), I was
all over the dictionary trying to understand the meaning.
In Roman Catholic moral theology, a mortal sin must meet
all of the following conditions at the same time: Its
subject must be a grave (or serious) matter. It must be
committed with full knowledge, both of the sin and of the
gravity of the offense (no one is considered ignorant of
the principles of the moral law, which are inborn as part
of human knowledge, but these principles can be
misunderstood in a particular context). It must be
committed with deliberate and complete consent, enough for
it to have been a personal decision to commit the sin.
It was slightly shocking to read the definition and apply
it to this person as compassion filled my heart with
thoughts of a child making this determination. How his
life must have been affected by the mere notion of one's
fate being defined in such a way. Let's get a whisper from
an angel in hopes of finding peace with the idea of
committing a mortal sin:
In simple terms, committing a
mortal sin represents 'wounding' the essence or the soul.
Willful and conscious acts that go against the moral fiber
of an individual help to create a path of assimilating
information for the purpose of spiritual integration. Some
may view this as the 'soul contract'.
Each person has a moral barometer or an internal gauge
that measures the belief system both consciously and
unconsciously. When someone intentionally crosses the line
of their spiritual belief, they are inflicting a 'wound'
to the self. The ego can partner with free will to create
a conflict in order to experience the contrast that
usually invokes a teaching on some level, which is
determined by the nature of the act.
Some who commit mortal sins are manifesting a 'wound' that
forms a personal barrier or distance from God. Descending
into a personal darkness represents suffering, which can
be an influence of Western religions that teach suffering
as a way to salvation. Do not pity those who choose to go
in to the depths of their darkness, for their path to
ascension is a dramatic and profound soul experience
beyond understanding.
In the moral fabric of society, each thread needs to weave
the energy of personal responsibility and integrity. At
the crossroads, where the ascending individual meets the
descending souls, you will find an energetic vacuum that
lifts each heart into the stream of Divine love and gentle
Oneness. The journey is a sacred and shared experience.
Bring joy, ease suffering
and create beauty, then dance like you mean it! Blessings, Russell
